Breaking Record Again! Unitary Quantum Achieves QV128

Date:2026/9/30 Source:Unitary Quantum

Recently, Hefei Unitary Quantum Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Unitary Quantum") announced that its self-developed trapped-ion quantum computer has passed the Quantum Volume (QV) 128 benchmark test, setting a new publicly reported domestic record. This marks a new level in the overall performance of Unitary Quantum’s full system, alongside continued acceleration of technological iteration.

Quantum Volume is a comprehensive metric for evaluating quantum computer performance, incorporating multiple factors such as qubit count, qubit quality, coherence time, gate fidelity and connectivity. Quantinuum holds that Quantum Volume integrates core performance parameters of quantum computers and guides the evolution of full-stack systems toward fault-tolerant quantum computing.

A quantum computer passes the Quantum Volume 2nbenchmark if it can execute random quantum circuits with n qubits and circuit depth n, while achieving a heavy output probability (HOP) above 2/3 (~0.667). In this test, Unitary Quantum’s trapped-ion quantum computer ran 7-layer square quantum circuits on 7 qubits (each layer comprising a series of single-qubit gates and two-qubit gates), with a heavy output probability of 0.707, exceeding the benchmark threshold. This confirms that the system can stably and reliably execute complex quantum circuits containing more than 500 single-qubit gates and over 50 two-qubit gates on 7 fully connected qubits, thereby attaining Quantum Volume 27 (128).

As one of the most rigorous and scientific metrics to assess the overall performance of quantum computers, a higher Quantum Volume indicates greater capability to solve more sophisticated problems with higher computational precision. IBM states that greater Quantum Volume unlocks stronger potential to find solutions to real-world challenges across industry, government and scientific research.

He Ran, General Manager of Unitary Quantum, commented that the achievement of Quantum Volume 128 marks an important stage on Unitary Quantum’s path toward quantum advantage and fault-tolerant quantum computing, and represents an important point in the engineering iteration of its full trapped-ion quantum computing system. This breakthrough brings Unitary Quantum one step closer to the long-term goal of universal fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Currently, leading global enterprises have attained Quantum Volume up to 225. As China’s pioneer in QCCD trapped-ion quantum computing, Unitary Quantum consistently focuses on national strategic science and technology missions. Transforming international competitive pressure into impetus for technological research, the company expedites breakthroughs in core and key technologies, continuously improves system scalability and quantum error correction capabilities, delivers practical products to empower diverse industries, and injects robust momentum into the innovative development of China’s future industries.
